Traditionally, “sweet nothings” are soft, affectionate words whispered between people—words that may seem insignificant on the surface, but carry deep emotional meaning.
For me, Sweet Nothings means something different.
This collection was created during a time of loss, reflection, uncertainty, and acceptance. I spent hours, days, and weeks sitting with emotions I couldn't avoid, trying to make sense of things that didn't make sense and learning to accept what was completely out of my control. Painting became a way to process it all—to sit with reality instead of running from it, to reflect, and to slowly find my footing again.
I wanted these paintings to feel dreamlike, dazed, and a little confusing. The muted tones reflect a muddled mind, while moments of brighter color offer glimpses of hope. Each piece holds a thought, feeling, or realization from this chapter of my life.
This collection is not about healing. It is about the moment before it.
The moment when everything feels like nothing. Nothing left to control. Nothing left to fix. Nothing left to lose. A kind of rock bottom where you are forced into stillness, whether you are ready or not.
While I wouldn't wish that place on anyone, I think there is something strangely beautiful about it. It is often in those moments that the chapters that follow become the most significant. They take us places we never would have gone otherwise. They give us opportunities we never imagined, perspectives we could never have seen, and possibilities we never thought existed.
It gives us strength we didn't even know we had, and a reason to push forward because we have nothing left to lose. Nothing.
To me, that is a moment of Sweet Nothings—the strange sweetness that can be found when life leaves you with nothing left to control, nothing left to fight, and nowhere left to go but forward.
And that is exactly where I was while painting this collection.
The studio playlist
Music is such an important part of my creative process. This is a playlist of some of my most repeated songs while painting this collection.
Inquire
All the works from the Sweet Nothings collection are available via inquiry, and are not listed in the shop. Not only does this allow me to connect with the collector, but it also logistically helps me better accommodate each person as my work now reaches multiple countries! Excited to help you all individually :)
